Scope and Contents
When Genevieve Tissot requested information on students at the Indiana School for the Deaf, in 1978, she received a reply from the Indiana State Library. Ms. Tissot sent genealogy information on family members, including Permelia Aldice Palmer Davies, Aldice/Aldis Ladd Palmber, Corin/Corrin Ladd, Florilla/Flovilla Arminder Palmer, Thomas Palmer, Jr., as well as the eleven children of Fred and Etta/Ada Bates Davis, born between 1889 and 1903. The collection includes photocopies of two pages from the diary of Ester Ann Davis Crandall listing students with birth dates and home towns; and the copy of a letter dated September 16, 1866 to cousin Permilia from Villa Johnson, Deaf and Dumb Institute.

Historical Note
The Deaf and Dumb Institute, now called the Indiana School for the Deaf, had incomplete records of students dating back to 1866. Mrs. Genevieve Tissot, Cle Elum, Washington, requested information from Mr. Jess Smith at the Indiana School for the Deaf in 1978. She provided family history on Permelia Aldice Palmer Davis, born September 4, 1830, and Aldice/Aldis Ladd Palmer, born November 12, 1805, both in Vermont. Fred and Etta/Ada Davis had eleven children between 1889 and 1903, all of whom are listed with their birthdates on one sheet.
