Scope and Contents

On August 29, 1881, R. S. Russell, Zionsville, Indiana, wrote to Isaac Thornburg and enclosed a flyer about his Chester white hogs with the prices for 1880. On October 27, 1881, S. R. Quick wrote to Isaac about "a dark red bull calf about six months old" selling for $75.00. Mr. Quick's letterhead states: Forest Shade Farm, S. R. Quick and Son, Short Horn Cattle and Cotswold Sheep, Stock for Sale at Fair Rates." He was located in Columbus, Indiana. The final letter, dated December 17, 1893, from Cable, Ohio, is written to Rufus Thornburg, Harrisville, Indiana. The author of this 1893 letter is G. N. Perry. He has "five bulls to select from, four young ones and one old one." He gives the cost of the animals listed. There are three small envelopes which accompany these hand-written letters in ink.

Isaac M. and Rufus Thornburg lived in Harrisville, Randolph County, Indiana. S. R. Quick and Son, Columbus, Indiana, were breeders of short horn cattle and costwold sheep. R. S. Russell, Zionsville, Indiana, sold Chester white hogs.
