Scope and Contents
This cyphering book is written in both ink and pencil. The pages are numbered in ink through 48, followed by 14 blank pages. On the first page is a drawing of a house (side view) under construction, with the following words below: "When this you see, remember me." Some headings on the pages are: "Simple Reduction," "Rule of Three," and "Simple Interest." The arithmetic is neatly written in blue or black ink. On pages 45, 46, and 48, names with birthdates are written. Also on page 48 are the dates when horses and mules gave birth. The latest date recorded is 1898, on page 45, where these words appear in pencil: "C. A. Thompson died 10 dy of August 1898."

Charley Thompson was born September 20, 1865. Sarah M. Thompson was born January 30, 1869. C. A. Thompson died August 10, 1898. These names and dates are written on pages 45, 46, and 48 of the bound volume.
