Biographical Note

Erastus Test was born November 12, 1836 to a Quaker couple in Indiana, Samuel and Hannah Test. He had five brothers, Josiah, William, Oliver, Rufus, and Zaccheus. Test taught school in Richmond, Indiana and simultaneously attained his B.S. (1863) and M.S. (1866) degrees from Earlham College, before earning an M.D. from the University of Michigan (1868). Test married Mary Taylor in August, 1868 He then taught science courses at Earlham College until retirement. Test died on April 21, 1917 and was buried at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana.
