Biographical Note
Grace Laverne Thompson Huffard was born May 30, 1892 in Paris Crossing, Indiana to Amos Garrett and Dema Eador Thompson. She was the second of three children, including Iva P. and Amos G. and worked as a buyer in a bookstore in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1920. She also worked for W. K. Steward, L.S. Ayres and Co. and Sears Roebuck and Co.
Huffard received a medal from the French government in 1923 for work with Anne Morgan's Committee for Devastated France. She married Robert Boyd Huffard in Marion County, Indiana on June 24, 1926. They lived in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1940. Huffard compiled an anthology of poetry for children (1934) and wrote a book of history for children (1963). Grace died February 17, 1989 in Los Angeles, California and was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
