Scope and Contents
This is a typed list of the books and articles Wendell wrote as well as edited. He wrote six books, mostly about the history of the Old South. He served as editor for historical journals and reviews. Mr. Stephenson contributed articles to the Dictionary of American Biography and the Dictionary of American History. He wrote many book reviews and appraised books in review articles. The citations give publisher, date of publication, issue or volume, and page numbers where appropriate.

Biographical Note
Born March 13, 1899, Wendell H. Stephenson was the son of Robert and Virginia (Jennie) Rupe Stephenson, who were Quakers, and belonged to the Meeting House in Plainfield, Indiana. Wendell married Hilda Dayles, who was born about 1903. Their son Lamar was born in 1930. From 1946-1953, Mr. Stephenson was an editor of the Mississippi Valley Historical Review, which changed its name to the Journal of American History in 1964. Wendell died on April 14, 1970 in Eugene, Oregon.
