Biographical Note

George W. Stephens was born about 1843 to George and Mary A. Stephens. The family lived in Salt Creek, Monroe County, Indiana during his early childhood and relocated to Jackson, Brown County, Indiana later. Stephens enlisted in Company H, 53rd Indiana Regiment in Indianapolis at the age of 18. He died in Corinth, Mississippi on July 1, 1862.
