Biographical Note
Enoch Richard Steen, son of John and Ruth (Robinson) Steen, was born in Palmyra Township, Knox County, Indiana on March 29, 1836. His father built the family's brick house in 1839. Enoch Steen worked as a farmer, despite his brief foray into gold mining. In 1859, Steen Township, named for pioneer Richard Steen (Enoch's grandfather), was created from the eastern portion of Palmyra Township. Enoch Steen married Sadie E. Wallace (1847-1874) on September 29, 1868 and they had three children: E. Ruth, N. May, and Earl. Enoch Steen lived at the old Steen homestead in Wheatland, Knox County, Indiana, until his death on April 10, 1881.
