Biographical Note

Lydia Katherine (Kate) Price Starks was born March 10, 1844. She married Leander Starks on April 11, 1861 and they had two children: Izora G. and Edbert Finlaw. Kate Starks' brother, Samuel Price, was killed during the Battle of Atlanta during the U.S. Civil War. She died September 29, 1897.

Leander Starks was born December 28, 1836 in Neville, Clermont County, Ohio to John and Charity (Meeker) Starks. The family moved to Rossburg, Salt Creek Township, Decatur County, Indiana by 1850. Leander Starks enlisted with the 26th Indiana Light Artillery, also known as Wilder's Battery, on August 14, 1862. He was discharged July 19, 1865. He died January 15, 1891 and was buried in Rossburg Cemetery in Decatur County, Indiana.
