Scope and Contents
One newsprint clipping from the National Archives, Washington, D.C. entitled "Memorial To Pioneers" is the only item in this collection. On the back of the clipping is typed: "These legends are the inscriptions that are written on the ledgers at the JOHN STARKS and CHARITY MEEKER graves, in Rossburg Cemetery north of New Point Indiana. A program dedicated to pioneers was given July 12, 1870."
The clipping is two columns with Charity Meeker Starks (1810-1867) on the left and John Starks (1806-1889) on the right. The biographies tell about ancestors (Neef family) back to Zurich, Switzerland, as well as Meeker and Starks relatives. No date is on the clipping. The name J.S. McKee is printed at the bottom.

Biographical Note
John Starks (1806-1889) and his wife Charity Meeker Starks (1810-1867) were pioneers of Rossburg, Decatur County, Indiana. John was the son of John Starks (1763-1841) and Catherine Neef (1770-1850) of Rochester, New York. In 1818, John and Catherine arrived in Nevillesville, Clermont County, Ohio by flat boat. Catherine's Neef ancestors came from Switzerland. Charity Meeker Starks was the daughter of Jonas Meeker (1763-1852), a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
