This collection contains Lester N. Vandivier's notebooks regarding the railroad post office (RPO) and highway post offices (HPO), and includes letters, newsletters, and Vandivier's personal notes ranging from 1948-1974. Also included is a copy of the book, "Railroad Postmarks of the United States, 1861-1886" by Charles L. Towle and Henry A. Meyer (1968).

Biographical Note
Lester Neal "Dickie" Vandivier was born on July 5, 1894 in Johnson County, Indiana to Thomas and Martha Vandivier. He married Catherine White (1895-1933) in 1921 and they had one daughter. Vandivier married Vivian Mullikin (1894-1960) in 1935. Mr. Vandivier was a World War I veteran and work as a railway mail clerk for 45 years. He died at the age of 82 on July 11, 1976.
