Scope and Contents

The collection includes the biographical manuscript, “The Lives of Julia and John Seagley, My Great Grand Parents” by Birdena Voight. Voight wrote the manuscript on 26 Nov 1934 as part of a course requirement when she was a student. The collection includes two manuscripts, one original and one copy, 13 pages each, with an additional cover page.

Biographical Note

Julia Ann Dannamiller, born 8 April 1830, in Alscell, Germany, immigrated to Canton, OH, with her family in 1838. There she met and married John Seagley on 22 Nov 1849. John Seagley, born 28 May, 1824, to Philip Jacob and Elizabeth (Numan) Seagley in Union Co, PA, and moved with his family to Stark County, Ohio, in 1830. In 1853, the couple moved with their two small children to Whitley County, IN, to a farm John had purchased. Four additional children were born on the farm, before the family moved to a farm in LaGrange County, IN, in 1864, where four more children were born. In 1902 the couple sold their farm to buy a home in Wolcotville, Indiana. On 25 March 1903, John Seagley died, followed by Julia on 8 Oct 1904. They are buried in Woodruff, LaGrange County, Indiana.
