Biographical Note

Edward Scofield Scott, born December 13, 1842 in Hamilton County, Ohio, was one of 109 Union officers who attempted escape from Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia through the famous Yankee tunnel. First Lieutenant Scott served in the 89th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, before being captured. In the 1880s, Scott worked as a minister in Delphos, Allen County, Ohio. He was married to Louisa, and had two children, Charles and Paul. Scott died January 4, 1929, in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois, and was buried in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio.
