Scope and Contents

This collection contains a typewritten copy of an address Governor Henry F. Schricker gave at the dedication of the Southern Indiana Tuberculosis Hospital on May 12, 1941, a letter of acceptance to a luncheon sent to Dr. I. Lynd Esch, President of Indiana Central College from Schricker on May 19 1947, and an invitation to a President's Annual Breakfast at the college on May 22 (ca.1948-1966). Also included is a copy of the July 12, 1967 memorial resolution given in honor of Governor Schricker by the Indiana State Fair Board.; Later addition includes an invitation on pamphlet "There is a Santa Claus".

Biographical Note

Henry F. Schricker was the Governor of Indiana from 1941 to 1945 and 1949 to 1952. Born in Starke County, Indiana to Bavarian immigrants, the governor received his education in local schools through eighth grade. He worked in his family's grocery and merchantile store and took bookkeeping classes before deciding to read for the law. He was admitted to the Indiana State Bar in 1906 and then worked as a cashier at a bank before purchasing the Starke County Democrat in 1908. After eleven years, he sold the paper and returned to banking. He became involved in Democratic politics in the 1920's and served as a state senator from 1933 to 1937 and lieutenant governor from 1937 to 1941 before becoming Indiana's 36th governor. He married Maude L. Brown in 1914 and they had 3 children. He passed away on December 28, 1966.
