Biographical Note/Historical Note

The Pitzer family migrated from Botetourt County, Virginia to Wayne and Boone counties, Indiana. Joseph Baker Pitzer was born December 5, 1814, in Botetourt County, Virginia, to John and Charlotte (Davidson) Pitzer. In 1834, Joseph Pitzer moved with his brother to Wayne County, Indiana. In 1836, they moved to Boone County, Indiana, where Joseph married his first wife, Margaret Stevenson, who died June 18, 1839. The couple had one surviving son, Rufus Baker Pitzer, who was born June 27, 1837, and died April 22, 1857. Joseph Pitzer married Margaret's sister, Susan Stevenson, and they lived in Zionsvile, Indiana, until his death on May 7, 1896.
