Blaze Robertson collection
Collection — Folder: S1125
Identifier: S1125
Scope and Contents
There are twenty-two photocopied pages, some typed and some handwritten, in this collection. Charles Boswell wrote one page entitled "Reminiscences." Five pages list descendants but without any dates. Eight pages are excerpts from an 1813 diary by Mr. Robertson [first name unknown], and were typed by Ben H. Robertson, Distributing Company of Tacoma, Washington, during January 1958. The next seven pages are hand-written and give a history of the Robertson family. The last page, dated November 1, 1967, is a note written to George [Roberts] from Farrell Lang. It reads: "Am mailing the old ledger today. Watch for it. Thanks a million. Am writing a long letter which follows shortly."

Biographical Note
The first Blaze Robertson came from Northumberland County, England, to America in 1644 with Lord Berkley. Perhaps the wife of this Blaze was from the family of Anne Hutchinson, who was banished to the wilderness for her religous beliefs.
Blaze Robertson and his wife, Hannah Hutchinson, lived in Hardy County, Virginia (now West Virginia) 15 or 20 miles from Moorefield. Blaze is said to have managed the estate of General Stevens, who was on George Washington's staff, but he did not take up arms against his mother country, England. Blaze died on September 10, 1810. The widow and several children moved to Jackson County, Indiana.
