This collection includes correspondence, legal papers, a daybook, and a family photograph from Solon Turman in Putnam County, Indiana, ranging from 1864 to 1909 and undated, regarding legal matters, common court please, and personal matters. The daybook contains Turman and Birch Putnam County common pleas ranging from 1870 to 1873.

Biographical Note

Solon Turman was about 1825 to parents Simon Turman and Abijah Cushman. Turman married Josephine Secrest on April 7, 1853 in Putnam County, Indiana. According to the 1860 U.S. census, Turman lived in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana with his wife, Josephine, daughter, Flora Turman, and Melinda Kelly. In 1872, Solon Turman was elected a 13th District Indiana Circuit Court judge, a position he held until his death March 22, 1881.
