Scope and Contents
There are three files in this collection. The first folder had family documents from 1874 through 1943. Bluford Richardson, supervisor on road work in Johnson County, kept a list of men who worked on the road, how many days, and how much they were paid, in 1874. In 1928, Lewis and his wife Hesper purchased property in Johnson County. The birth certificate of their daughter, Carolyn Dianne Richardson, born January 21, 1943, in also in the first folder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #317 in Nineveh from 1931 to 1941.
The second folder contains documents from 1944 to 1947, including licenses to handle explosives or ingredients, by the Bureau of Mines, in 1944 and 1945. There are copyrights for his publications issued in 1946. Family history is in this folder. The eldest daughter, Mary L. Richarson, wrote a poem entitled "Seek Ye First The Kingdom."
The third folder has poems and sketches in 1910 with a table of contents. The first stanza of "The Old Daguerreotype" reads thus: "It was only an old daguerretype I found in an idle nook; dusty, marked with the grime of age, and with backs that closed like a book. I opened it up as you might do to take a friendly look." One poem entitled "Sassafras Time" was published in "Our Poet's Corner" in an unknown publication. It tells about Sassafras George who "hath broken his bounds."
