Biographical Note/Historical Note/Administrative History

The paper "A Footnote on the Hoosier Stereotype" was read by its author, Richard Lyle Power, before the Mississippi Valley Historical Society in April 1938. A history professor at St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York, Power authored several publications about Indiana culture, including “Wet Lands and the Hoosier Stereotype” (1935), and “Planting Corn Belt Culture: The Impress of the Upland Southerner and Yankee in the Old Northwest” (1953). Richard Lyle Power was born 30 April 1896, in Milroy, Indiana. He married Florence Holbrook Doan on 29 Aug 1925 in Marion County. He died September 1978.
