Biographical Note

Adele Mounger Thomas was born on December 21, 1912 in Memphis Shel, Tennessee to William H. Mounger, minister, and Kathryn G. Wall. She was one of three children, including Mary and Billy, and their father's ministry took them to live in numerous small towns in Mississippi.

She and her husband, Claude Thomas, an accountant, lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for over 30 years, where she was involved in many organizations and won the award of "Woman of the Year" in 1978, given by the B'nai B'rith. She also managed family real estate holdings for 20 years, including, at one point, 50 properties. Thomas and Claude had two children: Cathy and John. The Thomases moved to North Carolina upon Claude's retirement. He predeceased her, and Thomas died March 2, 1999 in North Carolina.
