Biographical Note

Allen J. Payton was born around 1861-1862. In 1880, he lived in Luce, Spencer County, Indiana as a farmer. He married Anna Stevenson on June 3, 1891. They had 5 children, including Robert S.; Evelyn L.; Allen J.; William E.; and Amanda. During November 1888, Payton ran against Benjamin B. John for the Spencer County seat within the House of Representatives, Indiana General Assembly. He won the election after a special committee investigated voting fraud. He died on March 1, 1917 in Evansville, Indiana.
