Biographical Note
Samuel W. Parker was born on September 9, 1805, near Watertown, Jefferson County,
New York. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio and moved to Connersville,
Indiana, in 1828. Parker was admitted to the bar in 1831, and married Susannah B.
Watton in 1834. In addition to being a lawyer, Parker was also a newspaper editor,
president of the Whitewater Canal Company, and president of the Junction Rail Road
Company. He was prosecuting attorney for the sixth Circuit Court from 1836 to 1838.
Parker served in the State House of Representatives (1839-1840 and 1843-1844), State
Senate (1840-43), and U.S. House of Representatives (1851-1855). He died on
February 1, 1859.
