Scope and Contents

This collection includes letters ranging from 1919 to 1929 that were sent to Margaret Pierson from her mother and friends. Several of the letters were sent to Margaret, her father, and brother, Ralph, while her mother was staying at the Hotel Lookoff in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. The collection also contains correspondence from Vassar College, wedding announcements, and Margaret's 1922 passport with stamps from several European countries.

Biographical Note

Margaret B. Pierson was born on August 9, 1899 at Indianapolis, Indiana to Ora and Virginia Pierson. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1917 and from Vassar College 1921. Pierson also received a master's degree from Columbia University. She worked as a research statistician for Irving Fisher Syndicate and Index Number Institute and taught mathematics at Shortridge High School for many years before retiring in 1964. She died at the age of 84 on June 20, 1984.
