Scope and Contents
This collection includes personal business papers of the Ott family, receipts, price lists and inventories of furniture for the L.W. Ott Manufacturing Company, and a clipping from a German language newspaper ranging from 1864 to 1905. Related materials to this collection include three account books for Ott's furniture company, with one volume also containing his daybook of personal accounts ranging from 1858 to 1907.

Biographical Note
John Ott was born on January 15, 1825 in Bavaria, Germany and was one of the early residents of Indianapolis. He came to the United States in 1845 and a few years later moved to Indiana's capital city. He was a cabinet maker and founded the Ott Lounge Company, later known as the L.W. Ott Manufacturing Company. He died on February 5, 1914.
