Scope and Contents
This collection includes 2 sets of photocopies of George R. Wilson's typewritten manuscript, "Pioneers of the Catholic Faith in Dubois County" (1930), with subtitle, "To Which are Added Personal Reminiscences of the Writer From the Human Interest Standpoint. An Historical Review." The manuscript starts with Wilson's introduction to the early history of Dubois County and offers biographical sketches of 64 early pioneers living in the county prior to the arrival of Father Joseph Kundek in September, 1838. After his arrival, records regarding Catholic membership and activities were organized and sufficiently kept by Fr. Kundek.

Biographical Note
George R. Wilson was born on August 15, 1863 in Cannelton, Perry County, Indiana to Michael and Elizabeth Wilson and he and his family moved to Dubois County in 1866. Mr. Wilson was a noted historian and wrote two books on the history of Dubois County: History and Art Souvenir of Dubois County (1896) and History of Dubois County from Its Primitive Days to 1910 (1910). He was active in the Dubois County and Indiana State Historical Societies and gave speeches and wrote a number of articles and biographical sketches. He died at the age of 78 on August 25, 1941.
