Biographical Note
George Nichol was born on January 14, 1830 in Butler County, Ohio to Thomas and Jane Nichol. He moved to Anderson, Indiana in 1854 and bought interest in a hardware store. He enlisted on September 25, 1861 in the 47th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was commissioned a first lieutenant and served as quartermaster until mustering out on January 20, 1864. In 1870 he was elected auditor of Madison County and in 1905 he served as a representative in the 64th Indiana General Assembly. He died on May 28, 1919.
