This collection contains a typewritten copy of Chairman Vida Newsom's October 21, 1933 report regarding the activities and achievements of the Division of Mental Hygiene of the Indiana Federation of Clubs. Biographical Note
Vida Newsom was born on January 4, 1873 in Bartholomew County, Indiana to Jesse and Mary Newsom. She was active in civic and women's clubs, serving in many leadership roles. She was the state chairman of the Division of Mental Health, Indiana Federation of Clubs and an advisor for mental hygiene for the Division of Public Health of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. She passed away at the age of 65 on July 8, 1938.

Administrative History
The Indiana Federation of Clubs was organized in March, 1900. The Federation brought together a number of different clubs from across Indiana and allowed communication and cooperation between the different groups. The Indiana Society of Mental Hygiene was organized at the Conference on Mental Health held in Indianapolis in October, 1916. The purpose of this organization was "to work for the conservation of mental health; for the prevention of mental diseases and mental deficiency; and for the improvement in the care and treatment of those suffering from nervous or mental diseases or mental deficiencies." The Division of Mental Hygiene of the Indiana Federation of Clubs was started around 1923.
