Scope and Contents

This collection contains a bound volume of Rev. Norman B. Nash's record book of the deaths and burials of the 150th Field Artillery, 42nd Division of the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F) while in France and Germany during World War I (1918-1919). Included in the volume are the colonel's message for Hero Day (Sept. 1918); fatality statistics; a listing of names by company and battery with cause of death; listing of names by rank with full details of death and burial location; and original written accounts as kept by Chaplain Nash in the field.

Biographical Note

Norman B. Nash was born in Bangor, Maine on June 5, 1888 to Henry and Bessie Nash. He was educated at Harvard University, the Episcopal Theological Seminary, and the Western Theological Seminary. He was a professor at the Episcopal Theolgical Seminary from 1916 to 1939. During World War I, he served as chaplain for the 150th Field Artillery in France from 1918 to 1919. He later served as Rector at St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire(1939-1946) and as Bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts (1947-1956). He married Marian Noble in 1917 and they had 3 children. He died on January 3, 1963.
