Scope and Contents

This collection contains photocopies of poems, songs, scriptures and corrrespondence of the Mallery, Sallee, and Emmons families (1834 -1892). Several letters are written by Moses E. Sallee while he was with Company L, Indiana 8th Cavalry Regiment during the U.S. Civil War. Also included is the account book of J.M. Mallery of Noblesville, Indiana is (1835-1858). Some of the photocopies are illegible.

Biographical Note

Josiah Minor (J.M.) Mallery was born on May 24, 1806 in Jefferson County, New York to Curtis and Nancy Mallery. He married Lydia Maria Emmons (1815-1872) on September 6, 1835. He died in 1891.

Moses Edward Sallee was born about 1846. He enlisted in Company L Indiana 8th Cavalry Regiment on January 24, 1864. He mustered out on July 20, 1865. He married Emily Hopkins (1848-1936) on September 19, 1867. He was killed by a runaway team in Tipton, Indiana on August 14, 1885.
