Biographical Note

Lemuel Moss was born in 1829 in Boone County, Kentucky, to Demas and Esther Moss. Moss worked as a printer initially, but then became a Baptist pastor, and eventually a professor of theology. He married Harriet Bingham in 1851. Moss was president of Indiana University from 1875 to 1884. He died in 1904 in New York City.
