Scope and Contents

The collection contains two of Morris’ historical sketches of Washington County, Indiana ranging from December 1 to 10, 1936. The first is about the Washington Academy, a log schoolhouse located on State Road 56 between Salem and Canton. The second records major firsts in Salem, Washington County, Indiana.

Biographical Note

Harvey Morris was born around 1852 in Salem, Indiana. He studied law under S. B. Voyles. In 1901, he married Martha Tucks. Morris practiced law for fifty-five years. He was also active in local and state politics and edited the “True Blue Republican.” Morris had a great interest in the history of Washington County, Indiana, and wrote several articles and books about the area. He died on June 23, 1937, in Salem.
