Biographical Note
Anna Nicholas was a noted Indiana newswoman who worked more than fifty years for the Indianapolis Journal and the Indianapolis Star. She was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania to John and Rachel Nicholas on January 20, 1850. At the urging of her brother John, business manager of theJournal, she moved to Indianapolis in 1876. She was an editorial writer and literary editor and was the author of two volumes of short stories and the 1928 historical work, "The Story of Crown Hill." She was friends of many notable Hoosiers including James Whitcomb Riley, Gen. Lew Wallace, Meredith Nicholson, and Booth Tarkington. She died at the age of 79 on January 29, 1929.
