Scope and Contents

This collection includes photocopies of correspondence and documents regarding Sebastian S. Miller's claim for an invalid pension due to rheumatism that he developed as a result of his service during the Civil War. Ranging from 1878 to 1887, the collection contains correspondence from the Pension Office of the Department of the Interior and affidavits from physicians, fellow soldiers, and acquaintances. Also included are photocopies of a letter sent to Catherine Miller from the National Military Home regarding her husband's effects, his certificate of service, a document certifying the Miller's marriage, and a letter of administration of Sebastian Miller's estate granted to his son, Albert Miller.

Biographical Note

Sebastian S. Miller served in Company K, 8th Cavalry, 39th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers during the U.S. Civil War. He mustered into service on June 15, 1864 at Indianapolis and mustered out on July 20, 1865. Miller married Catherine Negley on March 27, 1852. He entered the National Military Home in Ohio in 1878 and passed away on December 12, 1883.
