Biographical Note
The Magee family, being a strong Presbyterian family, moved to the United States around 1680 when King James IIII forced the Catholic religion on Scottland and England. Benjamin F. Magee believed that all Magee's in the United States were of the same decent despite differences in spelling as his great grandfather spelled it McGhie, his grandfather Meghie, his father, Megie, and he Magee. Magee was in the army during the American Civil War, went to college at Hartsville University, and lived past the ripe old age of 71 when he wrote this journal.
