Biographical Note

Hiram Matthew was born in Saltillo, Indiana in 1830. His wife Elmira Collier was born in Campbellsburg, Indiana in 1838. They married in Washington County, Indiana on April 15, 1855. Hiram was in the Civil War from 1862-1865. As a trade Hiram followed the Matthew family tradition as a miller, which his sons also took up.
