The collection contains a reprint of a letter letter, originally written May 30, 1777 by General Lachlan McIntosh detailing the causes and duel with Button Gwinnett which resulted in Gwinnett's death. The letter was reprinted by the American Autograph Shop, Christmas 1937.

Biographical Note

Lachlan McIntosh (March 17, 1725 – February 20, 1806) was a British-born American military and political leader during the American Revolution. McIntosh gained notoriety in 1777, when he shot and killed Button Gwinnett in a duel. Gwinnett was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. McIntosh County in Georgia is named in honor of his family.
