Biographical Note

Frank G. Gilbert was born March 15, 1871 to David S. and Permelia Grant Gilbert (his second wife) in Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Indiana. He had four older half-siblings: Arthur C., Minor Gaylord, Fanny L.(who died in infancy) and Carrie M. and one younger sister, Permilie. Frank was graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, IN. He married Iva Deller, with whom he had a daughter, Ruth, on Oct. 18, 1899. He worked in banks, including the Steuben County Bank in Angola, the First National Bank of Angola, and organized the First State Bank of Pleasant Lake, in 1914; was a farmer; and served as the Pleasant Lake postmaster from 1897-1901. He was the speaker of the Indiana House of the General Assembly in 1927 and 1929, representing LaGrange and Steuben Counties as a Republican. Frank died April 11, 1954 and is buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
