Biographical Note
Franklin Carleton Nelson was born in DeKalb County, Indiana on Dec. 12, 1878 to Lorenzo D. and Alvina Keeran Nelson. He was the 2nd of four sons, including Arthur J., William Raymond and Stanley P. He taught school in De Kalb County for three years. He married Marie Lois Weamer on Oct. 5, 1904 in DeKalb County and they had one child, Josephine.
He worked as a traveling salesman and wrote several books of poetry (often using dialect) and prose. He also read his poetry over radio stations in Chicago and became known as Indiana's Radio Poet. He died July 6, 1941.
