Levin B. Lewis newspaper clippings
Collection — Folder: S0832
Identifier: S0832
Scope and Contents
This collection contains eight clippings of Kate Milner Rabb's newspaper column "The Hoosier Listening Post" regarding Levin B. Lewis and range from January 18, 1935 to February 3, 1935. Rabb's articles relate a variety of experiences that Lewis describes in his autobiography and information shared in family letters. His autobiography (circa 1881) and letters (1852-1860) were provided to Rabb by his daughter, Prudence Lewis. Some of the topics recounted are Lewis's arrival in Lawrenceburg and his first trip through the White Water Valley; the panic of 1837; his experiences as director of the State Bank of Indiana at Lawrenceburg; means of travel to Indianapolis prior to the arrival of the railroad; an 1852 letter from William Henry Harrison's son J. Scott Harrison; family news; and news about his business interests, initially positive before being in "a very bad way" by 1860.
