Scope and Contents
This collection contains a typewritten copy of Robert O. Levell's autobiography "Days Gone By" (circa 1938). A sequel to his "War on the Ocean," the manuscript includes biographical information and relates Levell's experiences while serving in the United States Navy during World War I. Also included with the manuscript is his undated poem "Clifty Falls".

Biographical Note
Robert O. Levell was born on November 5, 1895 in Greensburg, Indiana to Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Levell. He enlisted in the Navy during World War I and began his training at Newport, Rhode Island on June 29, 1917. He served on the U.S.S. Houston and U.S.S. Dixie and was honorably discharged on May 27, 1919. He graduated from the Ohio College of Chiropody in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922 and he had a podiatry practice in New Castle, Indiana. Dr. Levell was also a poet and songwriter and by 1971, he estimated that he had written around 1000 poems. He passed away at the age of 79 on April 25, 1975.
