Scope and Contents
This collection contains a June 15, 1848 letter written by Charlotte Farnham Leonard of Madison, Indiana to Reverend Samuel F. Jarvis of Middletown, Connecticut. Her letter is written on a June 14, 1848 circular printed by members of the Episcopal congregation of Christ Church in Madison and Jackson Kemper, the bishop in charge of the Diocese of Indiana. The circular was created to try and raise money to build a "suitable house for public worship." Charolotte Leonard was a former parishioner of Rev. Jarvis and she wrote to "beseech" him to help obtain the funds needed to built a church.

Biographical Note
Charlotte Farnham Leonard was born April 15, 1796 at Newburyport, Massachusetts to William and Hanna Farnham. She was the second wife of George W. Leonard (1790-1856) of Madison, Indiana whom she married on June 10, 1935 at Cincinnati, Ohio. Charlotte passed away on November 28, 1862 and is buried in Springdale Cemetery in Madison.
