Biographical Note

Lilian Lauferty was born at Fort Wayne, Indiana in May, 1882 (some sources give her year of birth as 1887 or 1890). She graduated from Fort Wayne High School in 1899, then attended Smith College in Massachusetts, graduating with a BA in 1903. She worked as a reporter and wrote the "Advise for the Lovelorn" column under the name Beatrice Fairfax for the New York Evening Journal for seven years. She was the author of the novels, "The Crimson Thread", "The Hungry House", "Baritone", "The Street of Chains", and "God Keeps an Open House." In 1924, she married James Wolfe, a basso of the Metropolitan Opera. She died in Winter Park, Florida in February 17, 1958.
