Biographical Note
George W. Lane was born on November 7, 1812 in Burlington, Boone County, Kentucky to Amos and Mary Lane. He married Sallie M. Buell (1820-1891) on March 8, 1840 and they had nine children. Lane served as auditor for Dearborn County from 1841 to 1846, represented the county in the Indiana House of Representatives in 1847-1848, and 1857. He was appointed the superintendent of the United States Mint for Denver, Colorado during the U.S. Civil War and also served as Assistant U.S. Treasurer (circa 1865-1869). He died in Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana on December 8, 1891.
