Scope and Contents

This collection includes photocopies of Jacob Kinzer's pocket diary from 1865, a journal written by Jacob or William Kinzer during a trip west in 1869, and a pocket diary from 1870. Also included are photocopies of Jacob Kinzer's draft notice, dated November 16, 1864, and a house rental agreement between Jacob Kinzer and William Ballard, dated March 15, 1865.

Biographical Note

Jacob Kinzer was born March 31, 1837 in Hamilton County, Indiana to John and Ruth Kinzer. He married Hannah Ballard (1851-1901) on October 15, 1879 and they had five children: Wiley (1877-1878), Irvin (1878-1954), Everett (1881-1965), Alma (1883-1968) Curtis (1891-1971). He died on January 7, 1916.

William Kinzer was born on May 27, 1832 in Hamilton County, Indiana to John and Ruth Kinzer. He married Maria Mendenhall (1839-1866) on May 10, 1863 and they had one son. After the death of Maria, William married Nancy Moon (1839-1911) in 1872 and they had three children: Albert (1873-1940), John (1875-1959), and Jennie (1889-1898). He died on March 3, 1914.
