Biographical / Historical

Esther Shively Keeney was born on November 6, 1880 to Thomas Jacob and Hannah Amanda Slauson [Slawson] Keeney in Indiana. She attended Indiana State Normal School (now Indiana State University) in 1899 for one year, then taught school for several years before being graduated from Indiana State Normal School in 1905. She taught for 16 years in Indiana before moving to Washington State, where she married Ben Dale Keeney on May 25, 1918. She taught in Washington State for several years, beginning in 1919. They had one child, Ben, born in 1920. He died on July 17, 1959. She died on August 2, 1971.
