Biographical Note

Ella Hartwig S. Kalley was born on December 25, 1850 in Illinois. Her father was a native of Denmark and she was received at the Danish court. She married Hezekiah Kalley on December 25, 1872, and he died about 1905. She was the owner and matron of an old folks' home in Irvington, which also housed a museum. She later operated the Hartwig Kalley Assembly for Aged People on Delaware Street. She founded the Hartwig Kalley National Home Missionary Association in 1899. She was a poetess. She died in 1935 at the Sines Sanitarium and is buried in the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
