Biographical Note
Walter K. Jordan was born approximately 1783 and was married to Betsy, with whom he had some children, living in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted as a private in the 19th U.S. Infantry on March 10, 1812. He was promoted to corporal, then sergeant in the War of 1812, serving at the garrison of Fort Wayne, Indiana Territory. He was taken prisoner by Indians during the fall of Fort Dearborn, on Lake Michigan, near Chicago, Illinois, in 1812. He escaped and returned to Fort Wayne, which was besieged after he arrived, then relieved by the arrival of William Henry Harrison. He was discharged from service April 6, 1814.
