Biographical Note
James Longwith Sowers was born on July 24, 1897 in Portland, Indiana to Thomas M. and Rebecca Jane Longwith Sowers. He was their third child. He lived in Union City, Indiana as a child, then moved to Muncie, Indiana where he attended normal school and served in the U.S. Army. He later went into business with his brother, became part owner of a manufacturing plant in Muncie and was involved with the White River Publishing Company, also in Muncie, including advertising and publishing. Sowers and his wife Madeleine H. Sowers married around 1924 and had at least one child, Rebecca A., born in 1930. He published one book of poetry, "White River, an Apologue of Indiana", in 1928.
He died in Kettering, Ohio on Oct. 4, 1986 and is buried in Lawndale Cemetery, Deerfield, Indiana with Madeleine, who died in 1974.
