Scope and Contents
This collection contains a July 5, 1850 letter written by Joseph Watson from Indianapolis, Indiana and sent to D.H. Hoover of Miamisburg, Ohio. In the letter, Watson mentions that he has been ill and "God only knows" whether he will recover. Due to his poor health, he is asking to settle their affairs and selling out his interest in a business in Ohio. Watson also mentions that "money still continues to be scarce here" and most people are buying on credit.

Biographical Note
Joseph Watson was born in Ohio around 1819. He married Sarah Jane Basey on November 9, 1840 in Butler County, Ohio and they had three children. By July 1850, he and his family had moved to Indianapolis. He was a sixty year member of the Odd Fellows and was a member of the Indianapolis Typographical Union, No. 1. At the time of his death on April 14, 1904 he was considered one of the oldest printers in the state of Indiana.
