Scope and Contents

This collection includes copies of an October 16, 1962 speech given by Florentine J. Hoelker at the Franklin County Historical Society meeting held in Oldenburg, Indiana regarding the history of Oldenburg; a speech he gave on July 3, 1965 at the Oldenburg Firemen's Festival; and a circa 1965 historical summary of Oldenburg's four public places.

Biographical Note

Florentine J. Hoelker was born March 28, 1891 in Batesville, Indiana to William and Magdalena Hoelker. He married Amanda Schmidt (1892-1954) on October 11, 1916. He worked with his father and later his brothers at the Hoelker General Store in Oldenburg, Franklin County, Indiana until 1950. He served as treasure of Franklin County from 1937 to 1941 and also worked as an insurance agent. He was an active member of the Franklin County Historical Society. He died at the age of 82 on December 2, 1973.
